ANIMATED CARTOONS
Animated cartoons
After my training as a graphic designer, I studied animation for 4 years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (KASK).
I obtained my Master in cinema and photography with an artistic option: Animated film.
At the time (early 1990s), no computers were used during classes. All work was done manually with pencil, paint, paper and cellophane, then filmed on 16mm.
After my studies, I found my first job as a production designer for animated films at the studio of Raoul Servais, the famous animated film artist from Ostend who was also our main teacher. I worked on the final sets of his feature film Taxandria. There, everything was still drawn in a classic way. Still without the help of a computer. A small project within the same studio followed; an animated series called Eb and Flo. For this series, I was part of the team that created the sets. After that, I worked for 6 months for Belvision Studios in Brussels to do the layouts for the Iznogoud series.
A few years followed where I tried to carry out two personal projects, in collaboration with Ivan Adriaenssens and Michaël Vincent. Two animated series: A Spider's Quest and Orphanimo!! Of the two series there is only one trailer, although Orphanimo!! later transformed into a comic strip. After that, it went quiet for a while when it came to animated films. I then got into web graphic design. I learned to work with Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign (partly), Dreamweaver and Flash. With this last program I made some functional animations in Flash, animated technical drawings. After stopping the comic series Orphanimo!! we helped make a trailer for the successor to Orphanimo!!, namely Victor. The original plan was that this animated film series would also be published in comic book form by Standaard Uitgeverij. The trailer was made in Berlin, but the comic book series and animated film series were never made.
Both A Spider's Quest, Orphanimo!! like Victor still waiting to be realized!
Below is the trailer for the animated series 'Victor' (2011)
Ivan Adriaenssens: scenario, storyboard - Luc Vincent: scenario, setting, colors, layout, storyboard
Michaël Vincent: characters - Animation: 4K Animation GmbH (Berlin)
