About Orphanimo!!
Orphanimo!! is a Belgian comic book series. The series consists of 12 albums.
These albums are again divided into two cycles of 6 parts each.
The series was designed by Luc Vincent, Ivan Adriaenssens and Michaël Vincent, who are also co-responsible for production. Luc takes care of the scenario, decor and color, Adriaenssens takes care of the scenario and layout, and Michaël takes care of the characters. The three initially proposed the storyline as an animated series, but when that didn't happen, it was turned into a comic book series.
The series was published by Standaard Uitgeverij (2002 - 2007).
The story...
The story revolves around Alice, a lady who lives with 5 orphans in an old Victorian house in an unnamed town. Alice has dedicated her life to raising orphaned children since losing her boyfriend 30 years ago. She tries to help the final five find a good home. Unbeknownst to her, the 5 orphans have sworn to stay together forever with Alice. They do everything to avoid being adopted.
The common thread of the series is that Alice and the orphans try to stand up to the multi-billionaire Hari Vallalkozo. Hari bought up all the land in the entire city, destroyed the original houses and built huge skyscrapers. Only Alice's house is not yet in his possession, and this house is located precisely on the land where he wants to build his largest skyscraper: the V-Building.
The first cycle revolves entirely around Hari's attempts to get his hands on this house. At the end of the first album, he had all the ground around the house dug up, leaving only a mound of earth with the house on top, leaning on the sewer pipes. The situation becomes complicated when Hari falls in love with Alice and his ex-wife visits him. In the sixth album, Alice and her orphans manage to escape in a hot air balloon. They take the house with them with the same balloon.
The second cycle revolves around the journey of Alice and the orphans to their new haven of peace: an island given to Alice... by Hari!

Prizes won with the series:
2005: Album 6 wins the Sint-Michiels prize for best album by a Dutch-speaking author at the fourth edition of the Comics Festival Belgium.
2006: Album 8 was nominated for the Stripschapprijs in the category 'Nederlands Jeugd' by 'Het Stripschap'.
